A Road Well Traveled

I’ve been driving on this stretch of
road so often that I’m on nodding
terms with telephone poles, bushes,
houses, trees and reeking tractors.

The road has been widened a bit,
tarted up too, layers of tarmac
and white markings, but under it
is the same old potholed dirt track.
