Eden undisturbed

Eden Undisturbed

Behind the tall walls there had, it was said, been
a perfect garden, where imported flowers stood
at attention for King Gardener

Local plants have seen off the foreign ones,
occupiers always lose; they grow tired of this
battle of attrition and take a chopper home.

Behind these big walls there is a paradise for
wildlife, in spring you can hear the garden sing;
cats rule ok, off limit for dogs of war, though.

I saw a property developer, on a ladder, looking
in, space enough for eight bungalows he thought
and in his mind, called the place, Conifer Close
