Outdoor Light.
Under a streetlamp she stood, short skirt
for such a cold day, showing red knickers,
the light had cruelly undressed her face.
A pathetic mask that bore the mark of loss,
yet in her eyes there was still the hope of
finding love that made her a prey for men
who sold her over and over again, and for
less money every time. Her last boyfriend
had promised her they would get engaged
as soon as she had made enough money to
buy rings and go on holiday to Spain;
the thought of that warmed her little heart,
but she was worried too if she didn’t make
any money to night he will be sullen call
her a useless whore and slap her about but
never in her face, was he kind that way.
