Unbecoming laughter

Unbecoming Laughter

All that expensive
white marble at the cemetery
blinded me,
another long time friend
had stopped smoking,
I stumbled and fell into
a newly dug hole.

I had looked at the bay
it looked so peaceful,
my friend had been an eager
sailor.

Mind, only my pride
was hurt, so
terrible embarrassing.

Later, around my
friend’s coffin,
mourners had mirth
in eyes that should have
been filled with tears.
