Mars 2007

By the sunny wall they sit,
the six black clad widows,
used to be eight, but winter
is damp and often cold in
the upper Algarve.

Knitting pins and darning
needles, glint in the light,
they pass the time talking
of the two that didn’t make
it…and patiently wait
