So, Farewell Then
She’s in her basket in the hall, where she
always likes to be keeping an eye on things.
I have given her the injection the vet gave
me, she isn’t in pain anymore and looks at
me with brown eyes full of love.
She’s so very tired, can’t keep her eyes
open, head rests on her paws, as she sinks
into the deepest sleep till she can’t hear me
anymore; and in the stillness between us,
I hear time’s engine revving up.
