the persian Carpet

The Persian Carpet

I bought a small carpet
from a man at the market,
I wasn’t going to,
but when I asked him
to reduce the price,
he shouted at me and the world,
said it was Persian,
so I hastily took it.

Rolled it out it in the hall,
switched the light on,
nothing and remembered
I had gone to town
to buy a light bulb

Later, when my wife
came home from work
she slipped on the carpet
and broke a leg.
